Urban Design Awards People's Choice

Voting in the People's Choice Award has now closed.  

The Urban Design Award winners were announced at the special Awards ceremony on 9 May 2013. See the library on this site for the full list of winners and a PDF of the Awards night presentation with more pictures of the winners and those highly commended.

Photos of entries in the Urban Design Awards are in the photo gallery. The best way see see the entries is to click on each picture of buildings one by one. You will notice that there are entries from each of the following categories:

  1. Single dwelling house
  2. Multi-unit housing
  3. Commercial/ mixed use development .
  4. Heritage/ adaptive re-use
  5. Sustainability
  6. Public buildings 

The judging criteria for the awards were:

  • contributions to contemporary and/or historic settings
  • long term sustainability
  • excellence in design

    Inspiring buildings that demonstrate excellence and enhance the urban environment of Randwick City will be acknowledged in the 2013 Randwick Urban Design Awards.

    Categories in the 2013 Randwick Urban Design Awards are:

    Residential buildings
    categories for both single dwelling housing and multi unit housing

    Commercial/mixed use development
    for projects that comprise retail and/or commercial uses that may include a residential component

    Heritage
    for projects relating to a heritage conservation area or a heritage listed building or structure under the Randwick Local Environmental Plan

    Sustainability
    for projects or public domain works that showcase ecologically sustainable development

    Public buildings
    projects of a public or institutional nature such as schools, hospitals, and churches and other buildings predominantly for public use.

    Three independent expert judges will assess all entries and shortlist those that best meet the award criteria for each category, and short listed entries will be placed on public display at Council’s Administration Building and website. There will also be a People’s

    Choice Award, providing an opportunity for the community to vote on their favourite building design.

    All entries must be submitted by 5pm Friday 5 April 2013, and award winners will be announced at a presentation ceremony on Thursday 9 May.
